On 29 March 2012 the Prime Minister, the Hon. Julia Gillard MP, and the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digiatl Economy, Senator the Hon. Stephen Conroy, announced the three year construction plan for the fibre compnent of the National Broadband Network, with more than 3.5 million new homes and businesses under construction or completed by mid 2015.
This means Australian families and businesses, wherever they live and work, will have access to the essential infrastructure of the 21st century - faster, more reliable broadband so our businesses can take on the world, and so Australian families can access better health and education services.
The three year plan for the rollout of the National Broadband Network will see fibre construction start by 30 June 2015 in:
Ashmore: 25,500 homes and businesses including Ashmore, Benowa, Bundall, Gilston, Highland Park, Molendinar and Nerang.
Merrimac: 20,900 homes and businesses including Broadbeach, Broadbeach Waters, Clear Island Waters, Mermaid Beach, Mermaid Waters and Miami.
Southport: 29,000 homes and businesses including Labrador, Main Beach and Southport.
Surfers Paradise: 5,000 homes and businesses including Broadbeach, Broadbeach Waters, Bundall and Surfers Paradise.
