Have your say on regional telecommunications Posted on November 15, 2011

Communities are being asked to provide feedback on their telecommunications services as part of a 2011-2012 Regional Telecommunications Review.

An independent review committee has been established, and is keen to learn from the experiences of consumers, businesses, agencies and organisations in regional, rural and remote communities.

The committee will report back to the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy by 5 March 2012.

The Minister has asked the committee to have particular regard for the opportunities that the National Broadband Network (NBN) and emerging digital economy can create to improve the delivery of:

  • health and education outcomes
  • growth in local economies
  • business efficiencies and opportunities
  • government services and programs, including local government services.

The committee is also interested in:

  • the communications needs of Indigenous Australians, particularly those that live in rural and remote communities
  • developments in the terrestrial and satellite mobile phone sector
  • the consumer concerns of people and businesses in regional  Australia.

Public submissions are due by Thursday 1 December 2011.

Guidelines for making a submission and an issues paper (which may help you frame your response) are available at www.rtirc.gov.au
