RDA Gold Coast Chair Craig Devlin has spoken at a breakfast forum for small business on harnessing the power of the digital economy, also chairing the closing Q & A session for participants.
The December 2011 event was a partnership between Regional Development Australia Gold Coast (RDA) and the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation (DEEDI). A keynote address highlighting the need for all businesses to consider their digital readiness and capabilities was provided by the Honourable Jan Jarratt MP, Queensland Minister for Tourism, Manufacturing and Small Business. This was followed by feature presentations from Malcolm Letts, SEQ Executive Regional Director of DEEDI and Yvette Adams, Director of the Creative Collective, RDA and Australian Institute for Commercialisation.
Mr Letts provided the audience with a local strategic context for harnessing the digital economy, including an overview of the Gold Coast economy, challenges and opportunities, current projects and planning, and available business development programs.
Keynote speaker Ms Adams, a multi-award winning businesswoman and entrepreneur, detailed practical tips for increasing online capabilities, including discussion of trends such as smart phones, tablets, Apps, online retailing, social media and online video. She also examined common problem areas for small business and their online solutions.
RDA Gold Coast will be working with DEEDI and other local organisations to help develop further digital economy seminars targeting a range of business and community sectors. Check our website regularly for further details.
